Data Deletion Instructions

Understand your data rights and learn how to delete your account and personal information from DerbyFish.

How to Delete Your Account

You can delete your DerbyFish account from inside the app:

  1. Open SettingsAccount.
  2. Tap Delete Account.
  3. Confirm by re-entering your email and tapping Delete Permanently.

You can also request deletion from this web page by emailing support@derby.fish from the email address on your account, with the subject line "Delete my account."

What Gets Deleted

When your account is deleted, we permanently remove:

  • Your profile (name, email, phone number, display name, avatar).
  • Your catch photographs and videos.
  • Your private catch metadata and notes.
  • Your BAIT balance (which has no cash value and is not refundable on deletion).
  • Your subscription entitlements (Compete Badge, Captain Badge). Active subscriptions must additionally be cancelled in Apple ID Settings or Google Play Subscriptions; deleting your DerbyFish account does not automatically cancel store-side billing.

What Is Retained (and Why)

The following information may be retained after account deletion, in anonymized or pseudonymized form:

  • Derby and league leaderboards. Past results are preserved for the integrity of the competition record. Where feasible, your display name is replaced with an anonymized identifier (e.g., "Former Angler").
  • Aggregated, non-identifying analytics (e.g., catch counts by region, by species) that contain no identifiers tied back to you.
  • Records required by law — for example, transaction records that must be retained for tax, accounting, or anti-fraud purposes.
  • Moderation records of any policy violations, retained to prevent ban evasion.

Retention Period

Account deletion completes within 30 days of a verified deletion request. Residual copies of your data in backups are purged within 90 days of deletion, on the standard backup-rotation schedule. Financial and transaction records may be retained longer where we are required to do so by law or tax obligations (see the retention exceptions described above).

You have the right to request complete deletion of your personal data

This includes your profile, posts, submissions, and all associated information

Right to Data Portability

You can request a copy of your data before deletion

We will provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days

Right to Withdraw Consent

You can withdraw consent for data processing at any time

This will stop future data collection but won't delete existing data

Right to Object

You can object to processing of your personal data

This applies to marketing communications and automated decision-making

Right to Rectification

You can request correction of inaccurate data

We will correct any errors in your personal information within 30 days

Data Export

Download your personal data before deletion

  • Export your fishing submissions and achievements
  • Download your posts and social interactions
  • Save your profile information and settings
  • Backup any important media files

Account Cleanup

Prepare your account for deletion

  • Cancel any active subscriptions or memberships
  • Transfer ownership of youth accounts if needed
  • Remove any linked payment methods
  • Clear any pending notifications or messages

Final Deletion

Complete the account deletion process in-app

  • Open Settings → Account in the DerbyFish app
  • Tap "Delete Account"
  • Confirm by re-entering your email and tapping "Delete Permanently"
  • Or email support@derby.fish from your account email, subject "Delete my account"

⚠️ Important Considerations

Before Deletion:

  • • Ensure you have backups of important data
  • • Cancel any active subscriptions
  • • Transfer youth accounts if applicable
  • • Download your fishing achievements
  • • Save any important posts or media

After Deletion:

  • • Your account will be permanently removed
  • • All personal data will be deleted
  • • You cannot recover deleted information
  • • You can create a new account anytime
  • • Some data may be retained for legal compliance
